Since I decided to put my hat in the ring and run for City Council I have been sitting down with Sand City residents and asking them how they see the City Government.
The most common words I hear is: nobody is listening. When the Council was considering the Tioga Project, an overwhelming number of residents voiced their opposition at the manner in which this project was being pushed forward without much attention paid to the residents concerns and how it was changing the City’s character. But the Council just sat there and voted for the project over the undeniable opposition of voters. Other citizens who care about environmental issues also find five deaf ears seating in the Council Chambers.
So it seems like our City Council is suffering from a certain numbness to its citizens concerns and opinions. If you are a voter and you feel things need to change, this is the time to change it. Two City Council seats are up for election. Vote for someone who listens.
